Yes, You Can Still Get Recruited Your Senior Year — Here’s How

If you’re heading into (or already in) your senior year and haven’t received offers yet — don’t panic. You’re not too late. Many players get recruited during or even after their senior seasons. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown on how to get recruited your senior year and make the most of your time.

Step 1: Lock in Your Academic Eligibility

First, make sure you’re eligible:

  • Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center (if you haven’t yet)
  • Confirm you have 16 NCAA-approved core courses
  • Boost your GPA this semester — even small gains matter
  • Send your updated transcript to any interested schools

Step 2: Build and Update Your Highlight Film Weekly

Coaches don’t have time to watch entire games — make their life easy.

  • Edit highlights after every 2–3 games
  • Lead with impact plays (first 60 seconds)
  • Include updated size/speed info and contact details
  • Post on Hudl, YouTube, and Twitter — tag coaches

Step 3: Email Coaches at Programs That Need Late Recruits

Start with schools that:

  • Still need players (D2, D3, NAIA, JUCO, some FCS)
  • Have openings at your position
  • Are within academic/financial fit

Email Tip: Include:

  • Highlight link
  • GPA/test scores
  • Position and measurables
  • Coach contact info

Step 4: Attend Local Camps, Showcases, and Visits

You still need live exposure.

  • Look for senior-specific showcases (December–February)
  • Ask local colleges about walk-on tryouts or prospect days
  • Send film before attending — give coaches a reason to watch you live

Step 5: Be Open to All Levels

Don’t get stuck chasing D1 if your offers are elsewhere.

  • JUCO: Great for development and re-recruitment
  • NAIA: Athletic scholarships, often with more roster needs
  • D2/D3: Competitive, with strong academics/aid packages

Step 6: Follow Up Relentlessly

  • Email coaches weekly with updates (new film, stats, GPA changes)
  • DM programs on Twitter (professionally)
  • Keep your coach in the loop to help advocate for you

Real Talk: What If Offers Don’t Come by Signing Day?

  • Keep playing (club leagues, 7v7, post-grad/prep school)
  • Ask coaches for honest feedback and use it
  • Stay on the grind — many players commit in spring or summer
